21 December 2016
Address by Officer in Charge of UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, Mr. Andrei Chevelev
Dear friends and colleagues!
Christmas and the New Year are approaching, and it is the time now to send best wishes to our partners, look back at what we have done in the past year and forge New Year resolutions for the upcoming year of 2017. Since our office is located in Kazakhstan, we are privileged to also celebrate the Orthodox Christmas (7 January) and the “Old Style” New Year (12 January).
This December, we are examining the results of our activities conducted during the past year.
In 2016, UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office made a significant step forward in many areas, but especially in the matters concerning network visibility and public affairs.
The beginning of the year, there was little social network presence, the website looked quite outdated and unassuming. Our long-term partners lacked an opportunity to follow up on our activities. Nonetheless, we succeeded at improving our communication channels and developed our own dynamic, open and engaged workstyle. Now we have thousands of social network subscribers and an upgraded web page. We also observe the increased media coverage and elevated newspaper publicity at the national level.
Thanks to the new young staff, our office is proud to bring innovation and novel approaches to current projects and reinforce the cooperation with different partners. We do our best to advance the cooperation with National Federations of UNESCO Clubs and get involved in their activities. We aim to bring in all participating countries of our Cluster for a more active and diverse cooperation. We strive to build a stronger connection with colleagues from other UN agencies in the region and pay special attention to the priorities of non-governmental and governmental partners.
Please allow us to cordially extend our sincere congratulations on the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.
We wish you, as Kazakhs say, a peaceful sky over your head and happiness to your family, children and friends.
